Where should nursing research be submitted for publication? (Top 12 ranking, Q1)

When nursing research is concluded, its true completion is marked by publication in a nursing journal. If extensive research fails to influence any knowledge framework or exert any practical impact, it becomes futile.

Then, where should nursing research be submitted for publication?

Primarily, it is crucial to contemplate the journal’s aim and the alignment of my research topic.

‘Will the primary readers of this journal truly show interest in my research?’

Every journal has a specific focus, and its subscribers are individuals interested in that particular direction. Hence, comprehending the purpose and scopes of the journal is essential.

This information is usually clearly presented on the journal’s website. You can find it by reading the “Aims and Scope” section, often available as a direct link at the top of the homepage or under sections such as About or Overview

If you discover that the direction outlined in the ‘Aims and Scope’ corresponds to your research, it is recommended to explore whether similar studies on your research topic have been published in that journal. You can conduct additional searches on platforms such as Google Scholar for further confirmation.

Nevertheless, wouldn’t it be more prudent to submit to a more reputable journal?

In the world of academic journals, authority signifies that papers published in the journal are frequently cited in other research, indicating a substantial contribution of valuable studies by the journal.

The capacity to attract citations for research is known as Impact Factor. It is annually updated and announced, determined by the performance over the past two years (average citations received by the journal’s published papers during that period). This is segmented into quartiles: Q1 (top 25%) to Q4 (bottom 25%), based on ranking.

In essence, the advice is to ‘Opt for a journal that suits your research scope and, if possible, is a Q1 journal!’
